A survey of the seasons

These pictures show the changing of the seasons on Wanstead Flats, rotating locations around the Flats. The survey will be updated with two pictures in each even-numbered month, forming a yearly cycle.

7 January 2007: the Bandstand pond has filled up a little this winter. Behind Capel Point, the cranes are building new housing.

3 February 2007: another view of the old huts site, near the December 06 picture, in winter mid-day sun.

24 March 2007: rats with wings at Alexandra Pond. At least the pond has water again.

9 April 2007: Why so many birds? Because stupid people like her bring bags of food down. Can she read? Or do the birds have bigger brains?

7 May 2007: though April was dry, winter was wet, and more recent rain has helped the horse chestnuts recover from last year.

13 June 2007: looking towards Aldersbrook from the centre of the flats, a storm passes by in this incessantly wet month.

1 July 2007: flowers and grasses in the ditch dug across the flats a few years ago, to relieve flood conditions should they ever recur.

4 August 2007: a nice relaxed feel to the flats as people chat in the late evening sunshine.

august

22 September 2007: this area at the top of the Flats has recently been cleared of gorse.

26 October 2007: the plane trees by Capel Road show their autumn colours.

october

November 2007: no picture. Must have been busy. Sorry.
9 December 2007: the fairground site, with Leytonstone's tower blocks behind, looking across Centre Road.
